What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is  a psychotherapy technique, particularly effective for treating trauma and PTSD, that involves processing traumatic memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, eg eye movements, to help reduce emotional distress. It is an extremely effective way to heal past trauma either events or developmental trauma, that is, traumatic experiences growing up in the family of origin that have lead to negative self beliefs.

What is the purpose of EMDR?
